Weekend Recap: Of Winds and Nights Out

Hi everyone.  This weekend was pretty power packed.  All week long, the meteorologists were predicting a pretty serious wind storm.  I was skeptical.  I mean, it wasn't a hurricane.  It was a wind event and really couldn't have been that bad.

Closing for high wind potential?  Here we go.  (I was very wrong on this btw).
Then the school systems started closing before the storm because of the potential for high winds and I kid you not...I was mildly amused.

But I continued about my day, went home from work on Thursday evening completing our normal evening routine.  I went to bed about 10PM and it wasn't too much longer that the wind made its presence known.  By 3AM, it was apparent this storm was nothing to sneeze at and the school systems had made the right decision. We woke up to neighborhood trash cans across streets, debris in yards, and reports of power outages.

About 6:30AM, I received a text that our office was authorized to telework because the building had no power. That worked well because the wind was STILL blowing and I'd just said to S. (whose building was also closed) that we were fortunate that we'd not yet lost power when....yep...it was gone.

The funny thing was, by now, everything was quiet and there was no more wind.

It wasn't an issue at all.  Because we rarely have lights out for long periods of time in any storm, and because S. had a special surprise for me that couldn't be rescheduled, we called out sitter to take the kids that afternoon (about 5) so that we could go for a Parents' Night Out.

I had not idea what we were in for, but found out that S. had booked an infrared sauna and 60 minute couples' massage for us!  I LOVE that man!

We had an amazing time.  It really was a nice experience.  My masseuse was attentive and knowledgeable.  The stress I'd been carrying in my back and shoulders seemed to melt away.  It wasn't too long before our session came to an end.  We're going back!  I told S.  we are definitely going back!

After the wonderful massage and sauna experience, I wanted to check on the kids and was surprised to find power had no been restored, eating out options were limited and traffic was not kind.  Our sitter was returning to our home and was going to stay there until things cleared about.  I'm a bit of a worrier when it comes to my babies, so I asked insisted S. and I go home and relieve the sitter to remove her from an inconvenient situation.

That turned out to be easier said than done.  A massive outlet mall sign (weighs 50k pounds) had bent in the windstorm and traffic had been diverted in the area.  It was a bit slow getting to where we wanted to go, but we made it.  Our sitter was actually surprised to see us because she had set up for the kids to have a great evening even though the power had not returned (love her).  Fortunately, it wasn't necessary since fifteen minutes after we arrived, the power came back on.  Unfortunately, S. and I didn't go back out to continue our evening and I owe him a date night do over.  I'm all for it!

Girls' Night Out.  Saturday evening, I left the kids with S. to attend a Girls' Night Out birthday event for one of our mutual friends.  She held a painting event at one of the local paint and sip locations and I absolutely enjoyed myself.  Let me tell you, I am NOT a painter at all.  I've been to one of these events and had a great time.  I knew from that experience that my painting may look a bit different than the original design.  I could not have been more correct.
Original painting as listed on the invitation

The design we were supposed to be painting is pictured on the left.

My version is below.  So, I may not have gotten the execution down, but I had a ball trying.  I'm going to figure out where to put it later this week.  But for now, it's in our bedroom awaiting its new location.

I'm definitely up for a return visit.  It was such a fun time and I cannot wait to do this again.

Worship.  After returning last night, S. and I woke early this morning and go the family ready for church.  I was singing with our praise ensemble and today was just amazing.

When I tell you the spirit of God moved all through that church today.  All Glory goes to God!  I wish you guys could have been there because there aren't words to accurately describe how beautiful it was--just corporate worship and gratitude.

God truly kept all of us throughout the storms.  There was a massive tree on the church campus that was blown down in the wind storm.  The tree fell away from all buildings and looked as if it was just laid there.  It was awe inspiring to see because this was a BIG tree.

Our Pastor drew parallels between the windstorm and the storm in which the disciples where sailing with Jesus being tossed to and fro while he slept.  Jesus calmed the sea with "Peace, be still".  Such was the command to the storms going on in our life (and those of the persons reading this post).

It truly was a great and wonderful experience.

After church, the family met my father in love for dinner.  It was good to see him and spend time with him.  We are hoping to have him come with us on a family vacation this summer.  We think it will be good for him to get out and see some new sights while being surrounded by people who love him.

I'll let you know how that goes.

And there you have it, everyone.  Our weekend recap complete with scary wind storms and beautiful praise worthy events.

I hope you all had a beautiful weekend and I look forward to talking to you again soon.
